This is my seventh year at BB&N, and I have loved attending the school. The teachers all care deeply about their subject and the student experience. Every year I have at least two who completely captivate me and make me look at issues/problems in a different way. Students also have fantastic opportunities to participate in clubs and gain leadership, and I have enjoyed involving myself in the arts, athletics, and in the high school's multiple student publications. Especially with the administration's recent focus on community-building, I've always found opportunities to integrate myself among new friends and enriching extracurricular environments. I would highly recommend BB&N to any student who seeks academic challenge.
Diversity among faculty and student body, athletics were not given any level of care, the facilities needed improvement all around. Academically it isn't a hard school, moreso just the volume of work that is given is heightened. Opportunity to study certain subjects is valuable. College counseling is hit or miss depending on the level of care the specific counselor you are given gives to your case. Atletic coaches are horrible, there needs to be more turnover given the state of most of their athletic programs. There was zero parking on campus and repeatedly made students late. Zero sense of school spirit in any sense of the world. the administration is removed and not involved or in tune with what the students need. Black and brown students are singled out and not treated very well. Faculty doesn't care too much for its students and for every good teacher you find, you have 4 bad ones.
I started at BB&N in 5th grade at the lower school; I'm now a senior (female, POC). My experience has had its ups and downs. I have made amazing friends, I have had great teachers, and I enjoyed most of the classes I've taken.
The academic experience depends on the teachers you get. There's about one bad egg in each department, but the majority of teachers are fantastic; I've been pretty lucky. Our Latin language department is the BEST! Socially, the friend groups can be pretty cliquey, but it might only be a problem with the current upperclassmen (it may soon be phased out). A problem I have with the school is its emphasis on sports and lack thereof in the arts. We have a great art department, but it's only due to the effort of the teachers, who don't seem well supported. The workload is cumbersome. My friends and I are almost never stress-free, leading to sub-par mental health. Even so, there is no place I would rather have gone! I learned so much and loved my time here.
