As an African American Student Athlete at Booker T. Washington High School i believe my time was spent very well. I believe that even though the schools graduation rates were low, the hospitality of the school's representatives such as teachers and other staff members have provided an open door to walking across the graduation stage. I couldn't have asked for a better high school experience than the one i gained from this school. I am proud of the education I received as well as the athletic opportunity gained at this school.

Being an alumni of this school its hard for me to be objective but I'll try. The school isn't as nice as when I attended 30+ years ago. Overall, the teaching staff is awesome. The majority actually do care about the student's future. The office support staff is a different story. They have this mentality that most parents don't care about their child's educational well being. I've had to bring that to their attention on more than one occassion
There is a lack of diversity in the student population. It is almost entirely black. Peer pressure comes with each step of life really, but I wouldn't say it's overwhelming. I guess, it depends on who you choose to associate yourself with. There is a variety of sexual orientations and it's widely accepted.
