Brunswick is an independent day school for boys of genuine potential in Pre-K - 12. Despite dramatic change during its history, Brunswick has dedicated itself to its founding goals.

In all we do, we uphold our founder's commitment: "Ably and generously preparing boys for life." We believe in the potential of boys, and we have deliberately sculpted an educational experience that emphasizes traditional learning, self-discipline, and character development. Our philosophy is fulfilled as we build young men of character through the educational experience that is uniquely Brunswick.

I'm a recent alum. Brunswick is a really special place and should be the number one option for parents who want to send their kids to an exceptional private school without sending them to boarding school.

Academically: Mr. and Mrs. Allwood – the heads of the math department – are worth the cost of tuition alone. Ms. Brennan, the chair of the history department, is similarly exceptional. The school, partly by the nature of its being a day school, must cater to many different kinds of students – including the dull ones; however, there is no limit to the academic achievement a student can aspire to at Brunswick. In fact, I suspect that there are more resources available to the smart students because they can stand out a bit more easily than is the case at many of the "top" New England prep schools.

Otherwise: of course, Brunswick is outstanding in athletics, and extracurricular club life is considerably better than most alternatives even if not the best in class.

Brunswick School is about appearances, but it is not competitive academically with the peer schools in the area. The educationally-aware families in town send their children to boarding school, and with good reason. Brunswick often trumpets the close relationships between students and faculty, but you'll rarely hear them talk about the teacher qualifications or academic effectiveness. I did not receive an education anywhere near to the tuition dollars I had to pay for it.
Brunswick is an exceptional school. My son is a senior at the school and could not be happier. He has had a great experience and really blossomed both academically and socially. The teachers are excellent and Headmaster Tom Philip is special. He goes out of his way to focus on the boys, rather than the parents. Brunswick has a well deserved reputation for strong athletics, but the academics are equally strong and the school is much more diverse and well rounded than many realize.
