The advanced courses offered to help students work towards their Associates Degree. The help students receive from counselors, administration, teachers, and faculty encourages students to keep going. The students have access to speak to the counselor at any time in regards to academics, certification and scholarships. At BECHS a family is formed to help each other be successful because we all have the same goal in mind. Sometimes it gets difficult but there is always someone there to push the students through the storms. Many lessons are learned at this school that have helped students at the University. The experience students get by attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and students are responsible to finish assignments on Blackboard. Going to the university, gives the students freedom that comes with responsibility and the opportunity to be university students. Although this school does not have sports, it has a dance and running club and many other clubs.
Brownsville ECHS is viewed as one of the most (if not THE most) prestigious high schools in our district. I won't deny, academics can become overwhelming, but it is all about learning how to manage time between extracurriculars and other activities/work. Throughout my 4 years in this school, I learned to develop important life skills needed for the work field, such as taking initiative, maintaining open communication, sharing ideas, and not being afraid to speak for myself. In fact, I would say BECHS has done a wonderful job preparing students for college, for we are also granted the opportunity to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to obtain our dual enrollment credit. This allows students to become involved in university events and learn to engage with other college students. BECHS faculty is also a key component, for their only goal is to see their students succeed, and they will most certainly try their best to support us in every way they can.
My experience at Brownsville Early College High School was the absolute best. I was able to have college readiness classes that have prepared me for my university years. I was able to have open communication with my teachers and not just online, but also in person. I had a great relationship, with all of them and my teachers always made sure to clear up any questions I had. They are always available to talk and not only about academics, but when you really need to talk something out. It was the best school I could have decided to attend to. The counselors are always extremely helpful, and are constantly sending reminders for students, which it is the best when someone truly needs it. I am grateful for my principal too, since she is the kindest person! She is always motivating students to excel in theirs studies, and to do their work in time. The staff is also kind, and overall due to the small amount of people per class, it allows for all students to get along, and have close bonds.
