Brooklyn Technical High School is the quintessential NYC school. The largest public high school in the state if not the country. While smaller schools advertise their student-teacher ratio and other such statistics Tech holds different strengths. In my experience, Tech is more akin to a medium-sized college than a high school. As a magnet students will need adequate testing skills and prep for admission. Accountability is everything. Making friends, bonding with teachers, and receiving help demands communication skills. Like our city, you need to know how to speak up. Tech's size is a double-edged sword; while it means less individual attention, slower and less organized bureaucracy, it also means a plethora of opportunities, communities, and even academic majors! Tech builds character and prepares you for the real world by demanding self-sufficiency, dedication, and confidence. Ambitious, driven, and adventurous students will thrive at Tech. Freshman, learn your cardinal directions!
As the only school that has something like the majors' program, Brooklyn Technical High School is one of the largest and most unique schools in the US. The diversity and student size of this school are comparable to those of small-sized colleges! I believe that even though the teacher to student ratio is not as ideal as other small schools, the teachers here have tried their best to personally tend to each and every student. As a specialized high school, Brooklyn Tech has many programs outside of simply just education. With many varsity teams and student-created clubs, there is a place where every student can feel comfortable and excel with their talents. The Majors' program is also a great opportunity that allows students to pick their own major, getting classes unique to what they have chosen. Tech gives students an experience in the real world before giving them the tough decision of college decisions and choosing majors. Brooklyn Tech is a great school for all who were accepted!
While my freshman year in Brooklyn Technical High School was remote due to the pandemic, the school and staffs made great efforts in ensuring that students are still learning with reliable resources and aid. After returning back to school, I was amazed to the learn about the variety of clubs, sports and student activities. Despite a few difficult classes, most of the teachers enjoy teaching and are eager to support their students. Brooklyn Tech's unique major selections and AP courses also help students prepare for college and vision their potential career of interest. The school definitely provide a great environment for bonding and learning.
