Brooklyn Latin School Reviews
Rating 3.93 out of 5 287 reviews
I like the fact that this is the only specialized high school that has an IB program. The students are receiving a well rounded education with a strong emphasis on the humanities and classics. Subjects such as English, History, Latin and a modern foreign language are a four year requirement.
I love the fact that there is a sense of community that is shared by both students and teachers. The Headmaster and administrative staff know and care about each and every student. During remote learning, the administrative staff were phenomenal in the way they checked on students to inquire about their social and emotional well being.
Brooklyn Latin is the only specialized high school that shares the building with two other schools. As the student enrollment increases because of the phenomenal education that is provided, the need to have their own building is more apparent.
My daughter is a senior now. I will be forever grateful for the education that she has received at Brooklyn Latin!

The staff and administration holds prejudice against their black students. The students are pushed really hard academically to the point where no less than 50% of the student population take some kind of substance to cope. Mental health issues are rampant there and depression is literally apart of the school culture at this point. They often hold unwarranted drug checks on their black and Latino Students, while conveniently ignoring their White/Asian counterparts. The school has a largely minority administration and still manages to ostracize and target their underprivileged students of color. They also pride themselves on their Graduation rate but neglect to explain the lack of assistance and resources they provide to seniors as they go through the application process. That school needs to close down already, they have ruined enough lives.
The Brooklyn Latin School is a great school for academics since it offers the rigorous IB program. The teachers at the school are passionate and kind, they also write great recommendation letters for college. The school has a close-knit community due to its smaller class population and it is generally easy to find your community at the school. This school will push you to participate in group discussions and public speaking which is a great way for students to step out of their comfort zone. One setback of the school is that the options for extracurriculars are not so diverse therefore students often look for extracurricular offers outside of the school. Overall, this is an excellent school for students who are dedicated to academics.
