Brighten just does things differently. Mastery takes a minute to get if you are used to traditional grade and teaching. But it makes so much sense. The Crew mentality teaches respect and reaches beyond the classroom—includes the parents, making it an energetic, STRONG community that is incomparable in Douglas County. The teaching style fosters critical thinking, lots of conversation. Kindergarteners and 1st graders reading—chapter books in instances. The social media campaign with the parents is really amazing. Very good behavior overall with kids, though more toughness would make me happier with problem children. The principal is a former salutatorian of Douglas County Highschool. Her standards are high and she is compassionate and passionate. Like in all places, there is room for improvement, but I have to say there is something special going on there.

The atmosphere at Brighten is unlike any school in the area. Teachers have high expectations, and the students rise to the occasion. We thoroughly enjoy being part of the Brighten crew!
Elementary grades were good. Poor, very poor quality of teaching at the middle school level. Administration lacks organization and management skills. Some of the middle school teachers and administration use bullying tactics and humiliation of students. Overall, the quality of education is declining at this school.
