Academics are good and the teachers care and are engaged. The school is setup for success in sports. If you are not an athlete then I would consider another school. The campus tour is awesome and they do a good job selling the school. However, the school is not as it claims in the tour. The type of kids let into the school leaves much to be desired. The school culture has a problem with cheating, fights, exclusion, etc. Athletics reign supreme at the school, which means that the kids put a lot of importance on it. Many of the teachers are coaches and have family at the school. Overall, the communication from the school is very poor. Many of the issues are brushed under the carpet and are not addressed and the administrators don't seem to want to remedy the problems. Their placards say: Athletics - Academics - Spiritual.... and that is the order of importance at the school. If you are looking at a strong Christian atmosphere then there are better options.
Review Brentwood Academy
I always feel safe at Brentwood Academy with their state of the art security systems and team of officers. The food is hand made by Chef Rick and his team every day, and it is almost always good with a few options to pick from every day. The AP and Honors teachers are outstanding, with lots of knowledge in their respected classes, however, the regular class teachers are not very qualified, with many being sports coaches teaching out of a textbook. The sports are fantastic and as a student you are required to do some kind of physical activity after school. There are not very many extra clubs but the few we have are actually quite good, including the robotics club which is a world contender. The college counselors are fantastic and help you throughout every step of test taking and admissions to help you get into a college of your choice. They really know what they are doing and have years of experience with many connections at most of the major schools.
This school prepared me for college academically but that's about all I got out of it. There are some great teachers that genuinely care about you but a lot of the policies are discriminatory. Their main focus is on Athletic Program. The athletes (specifically the more talented ones) get preferential treatment when it comes to discipline and academic leniency. For a christian school that promises to love, nurture and provide spiritual growth, I saw a lot of hypocrisy, unchristian like policies, and it actually hindered my spiritual growth. If I had to do it over I would not attend BA and would've saved my parents a LOT of money.
