Brentsville district high school is a place i would not recommend anyone who is somehow in a minority, to enter. Your experience there will be vastly different depending on your race/ethnicity, level of wealth, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The blatant discrimination of students within the school that is permitted by both the student body and staff is inexcusable and does not foster a proper environment to learn. Disregarding the social environment, the school itself is not much better, from barely functional bathrooms, asbestos, and failing AC, your discomfort is a guarantee. Teachers at brentsville and the programs themselves are also not as rigorous as they may sound, apart from a select few classes, many "aice" or advanced classes offered there provide almost no college preparation as I, personally, feel that they were many levels easier than the normal counterparts i had taken the year before.
Very old school, It's a shame that I'm going to graduate when I am; renovations are right around the corner.
The primary issue that I find with BDHS is that it's so old. I remember that one day, while walking down the hall, I noticed a collage of aged photos, turned a sour brown color with time. They depicted several graduates of BDHS, and their role during the Second World War. A fascinating display, however perspective-altering it was.
The bathrooms are often filthy, grime cakes the floor, and rust decorates each object within the rooms; a common theme within the entire school. Another, very striking thing (in my opinion): there are no dividers between the urinals in most bathrooms.
The air conditioning is often faulty, creating spaces where the temperature is far too warm, and others where it is freezing cold. Some ACs produce a distinct ticking at times.
BDHS has provided me a fine education; I just wish that the school was newer and more care was taken to clean her.

I liked the community within the school. It's the smallest school in a large county that has over 15,000 high school students; the smaller school made it easier to feel at home. Many alumni still live in the area and were very supportive of the school and it's extracurriculars. Parents were extremely involved, especially in sports. We also had atypical programs offered, such as the Turf Program, which I was on the cabinet for. We had our own greenhouse, took care of all of our sports fields and lawn/foliage maintenance, learned about grass and about the different types of machinery used for the maintenance and painting of sports fields. We are the number 1 program in the nation for it and it feels good to know I was apart of something so big.
