My time at Bowie High School was overall a decent experience. Pros of attending this institution include a diverse student body, a predominately compassionate staff, and lots of opportunities to get involved. From my experience, students at Bowie can expect to receive a high-quality education if they choose to take the more challenging classes that the school offers. Not to mention, the Bowie campus is home to Austin's Second Best Tree, which certainly earns the school a few bonus points. On the other hand, some cons of attending Bowie High School include poor facilities and a lack of safety. Something about the occasional falling AC unit, student-teacher relationship, and bat infestation makes it difficult for Bowie students to really develop a sense of school spirit. On the bright side, Bowie's long list of scandals provides endless engaging topics for conversation. In the end, Bowie High School is a pretty average place.

Bowie is hugely overcrowded and the building is in disrepair. Many of the faculty members attended high school there and are now teaching there which makes some of them unaccountable for their teaching and coaching practices. There is a "good ole boy" mentality there where they cover for each other when teachers have made bad decisions regarding students. If you take the AP track, you will have better teachers for the most part. Academic teachers are a mixed lot. There are some exceptional teachers there as well.
The Fine Arts Department is excellent! Diversity is a plus and there are many clubs that students can join. Funding cuts from the state and district have made this once great school an average school. Many families are starting to move away to nearby districts such as Eanes, Dripping Springs, Lake Travis and private schools.
The community at Bowie High School is very diverse. Students come from all different backgrounds, identify preferences, and interests which makes Bowie very unique. At campus, everyone is accepted and welcomed with the help of teachers, staff and different on campus activities. The teachers help their students learn and grow by holding them accountable for their grades and working with them if extra help is beneficial. However, even with a great culture that is present at Bowie, there are improvements that will allow the campus to be even better. Like any high school, fights break out which I believe could be handled better with more awareness and presence from the staff. Some teachers are unmotivated in their job which impacts the students academically and mentally. Besides improvements mentioned, being at Bowie for four years is something that I am grateful for.
