Bowie is hugely overcrowded and the building is in disrepair. Many of the faculty members attended high school there and are now teaching there which makes some of them unaccountable for their teaching and coaching practices. There is a "good ole boy" mentality there where they cover for each other when teachers have made bad decisions regarding students. If you take the AP track, you will have better teachers for the most part. Academic teachers are a mixed lot. There are some exceptional teachers there as well.
The Fine Arts Department is excellent! Diversity is a plus and there are many clubs that students can join. Funding cuts from the state and district have made this once great school an average school. Many families are starting to move away to nearby districts such as Eanes, Dripping Springs, Lake Travis and private schools.

The teachers at Bowie are amazing! You can tell that they care about their students, and want you to succeed. I had really good relationships with my teachers. It is easy to do that as long as you turn in your work and pay attention, then they'll love you! The facilities aren't the best, the bathrooms can be kind of scary. It is also freaky walking into your class to see a centipede or scorpion under your desk. The A/C's also don't work very often, or they work too well where it is freezing. But when it comes to getting an overall education, Bowie is awesome! It's just the building itself that lets it down a lot.
Bowie is an amazing place filled with a diverse staff and student body and a plethora of fun, inspiring clubs/organizations. I loved my time as a student due to my deep involvement in school activities and dedication to my advanced school work. Teachers are so willing to help students grow as long as the student is attentive and willing to put in work. The culture is lively due to 3000+ kiddos and the school being predominantly outside/concrete. Bowie high school is definitely different than most schools, however, there isn’t much I’d change because it’s unique and it’s home to me.
