Booker T. Washington High School Reviews
Rating 4.25 out of 5 641 reviews
As a parent, I was initially excited about the opportunities the magnet program at Booker T. Washington offered. By the time my daughter was in her senior year, I was demoralized.... My daughter was demoralized... And with just weeks to finish high school, my daughter ultimately chose to complete at Northstar Academy. Some educators were great, and they stood out as unique. Many were inconsistent in their expectations, showed a lack of motivation and a large deficit in communication skills. The worst educators were defensive and antagonistic. We felt that the issues at the educator level were a reflection of the leadership and communication capabilities at the principal level. There was a sense of "us" versus "them", rather than a proposed desire to reconcile any concern raised - large or small. Overall, we were not impressed with the quality of the education and felt like just another box to be checked. One of the assistant principals at the school stood out as fair and competent.
Booker T. Washington High School is an academically challenging and prideful school. When I first came in as a freshman I was overwhelmed by the amount of clubs and overall potential to be involved at the school regardless of demographics. Booker T. also has a fantastic marching band with insurmountable passion and character that draws students to the pep rallies and football games that they have to offer. This ultimately leads to a strong student body and involved parent volunteers. Additionally, in junior and senior years, Booker T. offers a vast multitude of IB (International Baccalaureate) classes that challenge students much to the same extent or perhaps even further than a college course. I took these classes junior and senior year and they were no meager feat. However, I left Booker T. Washington with a sense of pride and passion for my school and an excellent education that is incomparable to any other school in Oklahoma.
Going to High school was one of the most nerve wracking things for me. As someone who comes from overseas, socializing and talking in general is very difficult for me. I thought that meeting new people and making new friends was impossible since I was just so different. Besides socializing, I thought High school was gonna be stressful and boring. I hated going to school until I attended Booker T. Washington High school. Attending my high school proved me wrong about how I thought my school life would be. Along my years at BTW (Booker T. Washington High school) I learned many things not only about school. I learned life skills and problem solving skills. BTW taught me that good time management is very efficient and will help you have less work. I learned that anything can be possible if you really want it enough. There's so much oppurtunities and activities that are presented to students that'll help them in the long run. BTW shaped me to become the person I am today
