One thing I love about Boerne High School is the variation of course difficulty, as well as the access to different levels of education. For those pursuing a less academically driven education, on-level classes are a great option to still earn high school credits. For those pursuing higher levels of academic success, AP and dual credit classes allow students to earn college credit from even freshman year. Most students are easygoing and friendly, and the overall environment is relaxed. The teachers do an excellent job at connecting with students, and school events such as football games allow students to connect and show school spirit.
Boerne High does a wonderful job at challenging their students by offering plethora of advanced and college classes. I can never say that I am bored, as they provide about as many clubs and extracurricular as you could ever imagine. The custodial staff stays up until easily 1 in the morning or later cleaning the campus. They are greatly understaffed but they do a wonderful job that they are unappreciated for. One thing I would like to see change is more funding going to the fine arts. As a member of the band, there are a lot of opportunities that we miss out on due to lack of funds. On the other hand, everything is going to the athletics who perhaps have too much money, leaving the fine arts making sacrifices and having to pull money from the boosters of their programs ( out of their own pockets) in order to continue putting on shows and allowing their kids to do what they love most. I’d like to see a bit more of the school’s budget feeding into theater, band, choir, and orchestra
Boerne High School is a small, tight-knit community in which many of the teachers care deeply about the student's education. Despite its competitive academic nature, it is a good space to learn. One way in which Boerne could be improved is in its diversity. Generally, your average BHS student is upper-class, Christian, straight, conservative, and white. This makes it difficult for those who do not fit this description to find a judgement free place where they feel safe to freely express their thoughts and opinions.
