Adequate but disappointing. Definitely, not "Above and Beyond Excellence!" Bottom line, if the administration and staff are disrespecting people right upon the entry to the facilities, dictating terms, accusing patrons of not following rules that are poorly designed, displacing the blame for issues with paperwork, then they are the PROBLEM, not a solution. This is a disfunctional school, particularly due to poor technology, poor management of facilities, lacking traffic control particularly during Quivira construction, poor counselling, indifferent leadership. Avoid it if you can!
My experience with BVSW was amazing! The Blue Valley School District really prepared me to start and graduate high school, starting with elementary school. I love all the teachers I had, all my classes, the curriculum and the way the curriculum was taught, and that there was always a trusted adult to go to if I had any problems. I like how I can be myself at school, and that there are a lot of understanding people who work and attend BVSW.
My overall experience at Blue Valley Southwest High School has been pleasant in many ways. Faculty and staff are all very kind, the school isn't too large so there is no problem getting to know your teachers, as well as the students around you, and we have enough funds for students to not have to worry about the school needing to close down clubs and activities. There are many complaints about Southwest and the Blue Valley district in general, one of the most recent brought to administrators' attention brought to attention by students, is that of issues stemming from lack of diversity. Although the issues had been continuing for a long time, when the students spoke up, the administrators listened. I think that a school which has the ability to listen to its students when they cry out, and acknowledge its mistakes, as well as strive to fix them is one in which a student can trust. Additionally, a principal and administration which protects the minority is one that deserves recognition.
