BVSW high school has been an amazing experience. The diverse group of student athletes truly challenges the student body to bring their best to the athletics at the high school. The classes are diverse as well and the school offers hundreds of subjects so every student can find their interest. The theater and debate community are robust and provide an opportunity for every student. The best part about BVSW is the opportunity to attend the CAPS program for specific career interests. This program enables students to learn in a career centered environment and network with large companies for internships and mentoring opportunities. The campus is located near a nature preserve and has a fire station/EMS on campus, also for learning opportunities and community service.
Adequate but disappointing. Definitely, not "Above and Beyond Excellence!" Bottom line, if the administration and staff are disrespecting people right upon the entry to the facilities, dictating terms, accusing patrons of not following rules that are poorly designed, displacing the blame for issues with paperwork, then they are the PROBLEM, not a solution. This is a disfunctional school, particularly due to poor technology, poor management of facilities, lacking traffic control particularly during Quivira construction, poor counselling, indifferent leadership. Avoid it if you can!
Incredibly racist faculty and students. Not a healthy place to grow up, unless you're white (and not jewish or lgbtq+). There were several incidents of discrimination and bullying due to religious and racial differences, many of the worst statements given by the teachers themselves, but it was seen as normal and went fully ignored by the school. They let the abusive theater teacher put on the play "thoroughly modern milly," which was directed to be arguably even more anti-asian than the script is on its own. He also once told a student she was "too dark" for the stage. Unless the demographic makeup has drastically changed since I graduated in 2014, I wouldn't recommend enrolling. Even white, Christian kids should learn how to live harmoniously with people who differ from them, not be encouraged to discriminate. BVSW was a toxic and backwards environment, and they only ever pushed the 'gifted' kids, academically.
