Speaking as an AP/honors student, I would give BHS a 4 star rating. I give them this based on the facilities, teachers, and administration. The facilities would be given the highest rating. It is clean, neat, and constantly upgraded at BHS. The custodial staff does an amazing job picking up after the students, and if there's a problem, they are quick to fix it. The teachers are very 50/50. You either get the most amazing teacher you've ever had, or a teacher that makes you want to quit school altogether. This of course isn't BHS's fault, but the bad apple teachers are not reprimanded or told to review how they teach and approach students. Finally the administration. The administration has fallen short over the past few years, and it is apparent about playing favorites in the school (this coming from one of the favorites and top scholars). Overall, I enjoyed my time at BHS, since I mainly stayed in the academic and athletic circles. Could improve, but what school can't?
I love my school because it is diverse and inclusive. It offers a variety of classes that suit different people's interests, and the administrators always make sure to put the students first by acknowledging us for good work. I have been able to meet lots of different people at school that I will be friends with my whole life. Also I have been able to take classes that I love, like photography, psychology, sociology, and yearbook, by teachers who are really passionate about what they teach. My favorite part of my High School has to be the Cross Country team I got to be a part of, because that's where I made the most of my memories.
Bloomington High School is tremendously underrated and doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Community members often dump on the school because there are more minorities here than other High Schools in the Bloomington-Normal area. By no means, is it the best place you could send your kids, BHS needs to be recognized by people in the community for its amazing Marching Band Program, Art Department, and overall academic focus on Reading/Writing.
