Blacksburg has the potential to be a decent school if they would just invest some money into the area. Most of teachers seem very uninterested and tired and bored. The school is very low performing academically and athletically they have virtually no extracurricular activities no athletic activities and as far as any ATC involvement you got to drive to Gaffney. They can't even get a JROTC program to go to their school and this is a very impoverished area , AND THIS WAS ALL BEFORE COVID-19! Their football program is like the only draw and they don't do well like every season. Racially it's not very diverse a lot of the more affluent white people will drive their kids to Blacksburg because they don't want them going to more diverse schools in Gaffney. There's just very limited options at this school and in the town itself the town is either filled with meth heads and pill head's and the children of those meth and pill heads or paranoid wealthy helicopter parents "

One thing that sticks out about Blacksburg High School is how small it is. This characteristic that some may see as bad is actually something this small town school takes pride in. Everyone knows everyone and that factor contributes to a unique environment. The staff here are especially grateful for the small size because it allows them to build a personal connection with the students so they can not only be of help from an academic standpoint but from a life standpoint as well. The smaller size of our school also allows for a smaller student teacher ratio in the classroom, creating a learning environment that can benefit an individual who may be struggling as the teacher can have some time to focus on that particular student's need. Another great thing about this school is that despite everyone having their own "click" or group of friends, the students are still able to bounce around from group to group without facing criticism from their peers.
My experience here is great! The building is clean and well cared for and the teachers love to help you when you don't understand things. The faculty are very professional and are here to help you learn and understand whats in the classroom and outside the classroom.
