I am the parent of two BCS graduates whose kids started in the lower school. My kids are very different but the school served each of them exceptionally well. One needed strong support; the other needed real challenge. Both hit their stride through a combination of stimulating, demanding, well-supported academics along with strong, varied opportunities in sports and extracurriculars. They were well prepared for college where both were admitted to their first choice schools at top-ranked institutions. Overall the faculty is outstanding: passionate, dynamic, caring, and inspiring. The school's educators and administrators strive to provide the best possible learning environment and frequently are at the forefront of educational innovation. Finally, there is a genuine sense of community at the school that made our family's experience a truly rewarding one. Our children are proud to call themselves BCS graduates, and we are proud to have been a part of the school for many years.
Review Berkeley Carroll School
My two children (11th and 9th graders) have been at Berkeley Carroll for 8 years and have thrived. We moved our kids to the school because of the small class size, student to teacher ratio and the warmth of the school community. From lower school through middle school and now to upper school we have been more and more impressed with the academic rigor and the way the school has challenged our children at the level that was right for them. Our kids come home excited to talk about their classes and the discussions they have in class with classmates and teachers alike. The school's administration and faculty provide a stimulating and demanding, dynamic environment that is at the forefront of innovation. The school "inspires critical, ethical and global thinking" and we see that in our children and their school peers. We are excited to see where our children go from the strong foundation they have built through their work at Berkeley Carroll.
My three children have had an outstanding experience at BC. They have been challenged academically doing independent research, doubling up in math, science and languages, pushing themselves in writing, and mastering public speaking. They've also played on multiple Varsity, JV and middle school teams (some won league championships), and they have participated in the outstanding music program (two in the jazz bands). My oldest is now at a top liberal arts college taking challenging courses. BC got him ready and he is loving it. The other really special thing about Berkeley Carroll is the community. It is a welcoming place that strives to make students (and families) feel known. That is not so easy to find at NYC independent schools. BC has a culture of respect, support and inclusion that helps each student to find a voice and a passion.
