Benson is a very good school, especially for individuals interested in the STEM fields. I was a Health Sciences student and I can say that Benson thoroughly prepared me for my future college classes. If your goal is the Health field, architecture, Engineering, or any other technical career; Benson is the perfect choice for you!

I am a junior at Benson High school. The one thing that I first noticed when I started attending this school, is how diverse it was. I believe it is the most diverse high school in Portland. I also love the hands on experiences you get at this school, after all, that is the main reason I applied to Benson. Your junior year you get to pick one major ( Electric, Manufacturing, Construction, Digital Media, etc.) and build up your hands on skills. For example, in manufacturing we are currently using lathes, mills, saws, and drills to make parts for a hydraulic bottle jack. The one thing that I do not like about this school is its location. It is not a very safe neighborhood and the food choices are minimal.
As senior at Benson, I have been able to see the school grow and improve as the years go by. At Benson, there are not many AP classes. However, the AP classes that are provided are more vigorous and in depth in comparison with other portland public schools that I have heard. Benson also offers majors such as health occupations, construction, digital media, and many more. These majors are intended for the students to be ready for careers right after high school if there are students who do not wish to go to college. The majors are even more helpful for students getting ready for college for that the students will be ahead of the pack. Benson is also quite diverse since Benson is not a neighborhood high school and accepts any student no matter what part of Oregon they are from.
