Benjamin Banneker Academic High School is an excellent school in terms of college prep and readiness. The people there make learning both fun and interesting and makes school a lot easier. However, a problem in the school would be the lack of communication between students and teachers. Many times when students have problems with things going on in the school, they have a hard time bringing their concerns to the staff for reasons ranging from not having a healthy relationship with them to the fear that their concerns will fall on deaf ears. A change that I would like to see in my school would be a better relationship/problem solving between staff and students.

Banneker is a good school, it is very stressful, but that is due to the rigorous academics. If you attend Banneker, you wont get the average high school experience, there is no foot ball team, the school is very academically focused. There are sports teams like Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball, etc. The school caters to minorities, and has an interview process prior to being accepted to the school. Many opportunities are given when it comes to college acceptance, and because of the rigor, they are preparing you for the workload you will get in college.
Benjamin Banneker Academic High School is #1 in the entire DC area. Former President Obama has visited twice himself and has inspired me throughout my senior year and my 1st semester of college. The education, support, and college prep I received from Banneker is invaluable. Banneker constantly pushed its students'. Day after day was rigorous course loads from AP and IB classes, constant life lessons from our teachers, and community service commitments to help our community grow. At times it seemed as if it was too much, but in reality, Banneker has succeeded in making me college ready. With a 100% graduation rate, being on the stand, graduating, was the most rewarding and satisfying accomplishment. The teachers are committed to us succeeding and while they are rough at times, they show undying love for their students. Banneker, however, may seem very intimidating to students applying, therefore Banneker should be a little more lenient on who they choose to join the Banneker family.
