Banneker is academically rigorous, consequently earning it the #1 spot in D.C's best high schools. If you're looking to take AP classes, they're available, however, you won't be allowed to take any until your sophomore year. Additionally, there are no phones allowed in the school, at all. I didn't find this out until I began attending but in some ways, it has helped us all focus on our academics a lot better. The school definitely prepares you for college-no doubt about that!
What I like most about my High School is that it is very challenging. You may wonder why I would want a challenging school. Challenging schools help students prepare for college and yes it is very stressful. The overall atmosphere of the school is positive though there are some things I would like to see changes. For example, the lack of resources available at school or clubs and sports or other school related activities to help relieve stress. Also the school is not the most cleanest but is the most safest. As I have said before the atmosphere at Banneker is very positive meaning there aren't many bullying problems which is great! I would say that every class form their own bond and not too much violence/issues
The school culture here is amazing! This school is currently #1 in the District of Columbia area. The school is not big has a capacity of 500 or less students. They have programs such Advance Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate Program (IB) as well. Students get to chose which program they want to approach and to maintain a certain gpa. The school offers art, music, and language classes as well along with programs to be certified in Microsoft Word, and etc.. This school is a magnet school which will prepare you for college as well. The benefits that this school provides will help you reap in the future.
