There are a lot of bells and whistles at Benilde, but a lot of things were very disappointing. Most frustrating is the athletics department which is run by someone who is extremely rude to parents and students and needs to go. The department seems incongruent with the other departments in terms of what they are trying to promote. The coaching staff for many of the sports are awful. They hold onto to coaches who have previous alumni or donor connections with the school even if they are unliked and underperforming. They also favor students they've recruited in and/or whose parents are big donors to the school.
The special services department is also overhyped and under-delivers. Most disappointing is the culture of the parent community and student body. Many of the teachers are great, but the parent community is extremely unwelcoming and elitist.

Benilde-St. Margaret's has played a major role in my life in forming me into the student, person, daughter, church member, performer, and friend I am today. As a student I never had a problem finding things to do– in fact I wanted to do too much! I definitely became one definition of overscheduled– but I loved it. The most beneficial part of trying all of these activities out for me was the clarity I was given of which activities I would prioritize and want to pursue. Being able to experiment in Junior High I was ready by the time I got to high school to leave my sporting career behind and continue to delve into the BSM drama and music departments. I participated in every drama department show available to me and was able to keep branching out and really make the most of my BSM experience. I am so thankful for the religious guidance and amazing work ethic BSM had instilled in me and I am ready for college!
I struggle with this a lot. Was it a 'great' school. No, not at all. Is it one of the better schools in the metro, probably. It is also one of the better overall values if going private.

Would I do it again, probably...

Can they be better, absolutely. Do they want to be better, not as far as I can tell.

The major benefit and one we did not expect was the number of colleges that truly seem to love BSM kids. Consider some highly ranked schools such as Gustavus, Marquette, Creighton (and there are more) that appear to offer BSM kids no application fees, reduced admissions requirements (no test scores), some without an essay, then upon acceptance offer very good merit scholarships.

I've talked to a lot of other parents from other schools and they don't seem to have the same experience. For this we are very grateful for the school.
