In our third year at Beacon, we couldn't be happier with the balance of real academic, intellectual curiosity and a supportive environment for students. Gone are the days of "skill and drill" and being lectured AT! The first two years at Beacon lay a solid foundation for learning, i.e., reading literature with an emphasis on writing style and interpretation of texts in contemporary and modern settings. These critical years of deep learning in a Montessori setting of dialogue and engagement allowed our child to enter her IB curriculum confidently. Students have robust relationships with teachers. Interdisciplinary learning is fundamental to a Beacon education. Learning to deconstruct text in literature naturally lends itself to knowing how to tackle science experiments, i.e., starting with questions/hypotheses, then moving into discovery of new data/facts. A Beacon education is true college prep; students are prepared for the demands of college and embrace opportunities.

The best! Despite living in Hinsdale, once we read about Beacon, we knew it was the one! It offers small class size and a curriculum that is in tune with adolescent development. Many opportunities here that are not available elsewhere from the academic offerings to sports (no cut) and clubs. Our 2nd child attends, as well. My children have been involved in sailing, volleyball, fencing, soccer and musicals, to name a few. Music classes here led to my son’s passion for song writing!
I love going to Beacon Academy! The learning environment is very positive and each of the teachers is enthusiastic about the subject they are teaching. Furthermore, they make sure that each and every student completely understands what they are learning. I love the community here because everyone is accepting of one another. It helps that the 9th and 10th graders are in classes together. This allows for friendships with students that are older and younger than oneself. The thing that I love most about Beacon Academy, is the relationship between the students and teachers. I feel accepted by everyone in the community and every teacher cares and respects me. Whenever I have a question about anything, my teachers are willing to help me and talk me through my difficulties. Overall, I love this school!
