First of all, I love the inclusivity and diversity here. It’s amazing the amount of inclusion and respect each student receives, and that’s what I love about Baxter. However, I feel lied to. I enrolled at Baxter because I was told many times that it is a “rigorous, college prepatory high school”, and I was looking for a more challenging academic experience. If I’ve learned one thing in the past few weeks I’ve spent here, it’s that Baxter is neither rigorous, college prepatory, nor flexible when it comes to high-achieving students. At this point, I would rather be at my old school, which is in no way praised for its academics, because it appears to be more challenging. I am in not dissuading anyone from attending Baxter, as the community there is amazing, but if you are interested in this school because of its academics, look elsewhere.

Not only do I get encouragement from all the staff and teachers, but I am surrounded by many motivated intellectuals who encourage me to do my best. The classes are set up so that we are challenged and have hands-on experiences. The teachers are always happy to help. The students are encouraged to think outside the box and solve problems. We dedicate 20% of our school year (Every Friday) on a project that we choose. Some people will do internships, start school clubs, plan abroad trips, etc. This is a great encouragement for students to solve problems on their own or with groups. It teaches teamwork, problem-solving, and encourages students to think independently.
Baxter-Academy in my experience is very challenging and pushing their students to achieve greater heights. We are hands-on learning STEM school, which means that students learn by solving or working with real-life situations. Baxter could really start more after-school clubs or activities for the students in particular because there is not a lot of activities involvement from the student body in general.
