Basis Ed in general is experiencing some detrimental growing pains and San Antonio North Central Campus has taken the main brunt of the damage because of it. The concept of having different specialist teachers for every subject area, plus a learning generalist teacher is a wonderful idea; however: the class sizes are huge- with over 30 children they are crammed in like sardines. Plus, with two teachers sometimes no one takes responsibility for an individual child's learning! Most of the subject area teachers have zero teacher training and resort to naive and harmful methods of discipline. The administrators don't do anything about this as many also have no formal training in pedagogy and all have absolutely no training in school administration. Some are each other’s relatives. School policies constantly change as do teachers and staff, leaving parents perpetually confused. They won’t let parents visit children at school to observe, except for lunch on birthdays.

They have a very strict homework policy which is good however teachers are not very well trained and my daughter was not able to do some of the homework problems because she says that her teacher did not explain the material well. Even she was hesitating for asking questions to her math teacher. Therefore as a parent I had to be her math teacher during evening times. I was working with her around 2 hours every night explaining the topic that her teacher was supposed to do so.
My kinder-gardener's teacher was sometimes getting mad and threatening students. Unfortunately, administrator did no do anything after we complained about several incidents.
As a parent who sent two kids to that school, I can comfortably say that; if you want your kid to get a quality of education this place is not for you. They can only teach to some kids who are already good at math/science or who are having parents flexible and educated enough to be able to teach math to their kids after school.
I have 3 kids here, all with different personalities (gifted, adhd) and each has succeeded. The curriculum is hard enough that my gifted kid has thrived and been challenged. My adhd child made leaps and bounds this year (also, doing well academically) by learning good study skills and habits, thanks in large part to his great teachers and the tutoring help available. And my youngest (2nd grader) had no problems adjusting to the challenging work and making friends and she loved all her teachers. We've been in a Dallas public school, a san Antonio public school and another charter school, but Basis is the right fit for our family.
