BASIS Peoria is not for everyone. Students interested in enrolling should be prepared for an incredibly rigorous curriculum, consisting of approximately 11 AP classes. BASIS designed their courses for the purpose of college prep: students that are well accustomed to AP level content and studying are likely to do better managing a college class. That being said, since most of the attention falls on academics, sports and activities take the sidelines. Most of the sports teams are supported by the students, but if someone is looking for the "typical high school experience", this might not be the place. The student culture is worth noting, because this is probably the most inclusive and supportive group of kids. Going into my freshman year of college I can honestly say that putting myself through this type of curriculum has given me a great idea of what to expect in my higher level education.
Basis Peoria has very good academics but lacks a balanced environment. Many students feel overwhelmed and the drop out rate is high. But, it does prepare you for the rigors of college and helps make you a competitive college applicant. Also, the small size has many advantages too!
