We are are new family to Basis McLean but so far loving it!
I know there has been administrative instability in the past but the quality of the teaching and small class size is outstandingly fabulous. My daughter is so motivated, it is wonderful to see.

If your focus is sports, this is not the school for you. But if your focus is academics and a love a learning, I believe this school is working very well.

We are happy we switched from FCPS, despite the cost esp. as the school offers in-person teaching during this pandemic which has been essential for my child's growth and wellbeing.

We had a very smooth transition from public school to BASIS Independent McLean this fall. The availability of hybrid/in-school learning and a rigorous academic program were what attracted us. We also appreciate the attentiveness of administrative staff. Our child has learned and grown so much in the past two months. If we had stayed with public school, it is extremely doubtful our child would be this far along, this enthusiastic about school. They do not have much in the way of sports or arts right now (due to the pandemic, mostly) but we have opportunities outside of the school for recreational sports league participation and this is not a problem or a deal-breaker for us. Kudos to BASIS for allowing for a safe return to in-class instruction for hundreds of students. We feel safe with the protocols they have in place and we appreciate the supportive and friendly staff and the welcoming student body. The teachers have exceeded our expectations and we could not be happier.
This is a niche school primarily for those seeking advanced academic and challenge. For those seeking the fluff that usually accompanies private schools -- then this would fall short. The curriculum is excellent. Core teachers are stellar for the most part. Quality of leadership/admin is inconsistent though (thus I'm tempted to downgrade to 4 stars). My children are happy here. They have pride on the higher level of academics they operate on, and like being with peers with that same value. College readiness is achieved well before graduation.
