In our Primary Program, our unique two-teacher model creates a learning environment that fosters curiosity and builds problem-solving skills. Our middle school students discover connections organically and gain the autonomy and self-discipline necessary for success, while high school students develop the critical-thinking skills required for success in college and beyond. At BASIS Independent McLean, our students are challenged to imagine what is possible and work hard to achieve it.

Our son is currently in the 2nd grade. He has been at the school for two years, and it has been a wonderful experience. The enthusiasm of the teachers, who are truly experts in the subjects they teach, is infectious. They consistently set high standards for all students at every stage of their academic career. This is a school that prioritizes academics and the students themselves; it is targeted to students with intellectual curiosity and a strong work ethic. We are very happy here!

If you can just focus on your child's experience in the classroom, you will be happy here. This place would be great if they could figure out everything that goes on OUTSIDE of the classrooms. Billing, lunches, facilities, front office staff, after school programs, field trips, classroom furniture and materials, security, book ordering--all a mess. They lost two Heads of Schools when all they really need to lose is their Head of Operations. She has no experience working in schools, and neither does the CEO. Despite the CEO and the Head of Operations both having no prior education-related work experiences, they are the last resort for answers to questions..that they can't answer. So, if you care about all of that, this isn't the place for you. If you care about your child having great teachers and learning at a high level, come here. Hopefully the teachers and administrators don't get fed-up with all of the above and leave, because they're all that's keeping families.
Basis Independent McLean provides my 5th grade son with an outstanding, truly world class education. Now in his second year at Basis, he continues to meet challenges that push him to work harder, study smarter and identify opportunities which require him to find individual support from his teachers. Basis Independent McLean is not an “old school” school. The tuition fees are far more affordable than the “old school” private schools. My money is funneled into my son’s education, not the maintenance of great lawns. Basis Independent McLean demands diligent enduring academic effort and rewards academic achievement. Every student is not a “winner.” We are a community that values and recognizes hard work that result in academic excellence. While Basis does not identify its program as STEM, my son finds challenges in mathematics, science, technology and engineering every week.
