If you are looking for a great school that challenges your children academically, and motivates them to be the best they can be, then Basis Manhattan is for you.
Our children are in their third year at the school and have learned more than their peers in comparable schools, out performed our expectations, and have enjoyed doing so.
Not only is it both academically challenging and rewarding, but it also has a caring, considerate culture lead by outstanding teachers.
It is a small school with small classes so this necessarily limits the clubs and sports it can offer. So if your life revolves around sports and extra curricular activities - and you can't find them outside of your school - then you will most likely deny your children the best education, at the best value, available in NYC!

We have been at Basis Independent Manhattan since its inception. We enjoy the groundbreaking academics and professionalism in education. We see the for-profit leadership model in a positive light because the focus of everyone is on the kids and the educators. There are no self serving parent associations and continuous fundraising efforts. Probably because of the network Economies of scale, Basis is able to deliver an outstanding educational service at a very competitive tuition for Manhattan private school standards. Basis is definitely at the pinnacle of preK-12 education worldwide. Our daughter has been enjoying the accelerated curriculum since 3rd grade and we love the constant feedback which acts as a great positive reinforcement. We strongly recommend considering Basis to any new parent.
First of all, the picture of kids running outside here is inaccurate, kids are not allowed to run in that area or most of the outdoor area, they're expected to act like adults most of the time. Teachers are given an extremely aggressive syllabus and a week of training and then they're completely on their own to deliver. Most of them not qualified to teach without direction even if they have the best intentions. No recess, gym, art, music starting 6th grade. Kids are shuffled from class to class with no breaks, none. Punishment is the first response to everything, it's not a happy school, kids are scared of deans, they look away when they see administrators. It's a financial institution that charges almost half of other private schools in Manhattan and you get what you pay for. Student hours was what drew us in, it's so crowded, there's no use, we were left to catch our daughter up after school. And there's no way out, exmissions do not exist, you get stuck.
