This school is very good for academics, and I loved my time here! The teachers are supportive, and there are systems established so that anyone can succeed here, if they want to. You have to love learning to succeed here because of the rigorous curriculum. The school is also rather small, but it's location makes it easily accessible by metro and the D6, so most kids living in the city should not have a hard time getting there. The community is small yet very caring in my opinion, as the senior class this year is a tight knit community. I do not know about the other grades. Overall, this school is very good, and very deserving of its ratings.

I've been going to BASIS since 5th grade and so much has changed, from the teachers and faculty, to the food, to building itself. In 2012, I was excited to start a new chapter full of challenges. We've had new teachers and administrators. We got the building renovated a few years back. The administration is very weird in that they allow anyone to apply for Head of School and Dean position. Student voices aren't heard as much as they should, but the school says they're "working on it." Being in an office building, there aren't any opportunities for the big sports students play, like football and basketball. There were a couple investigations done on my school for discrimination of minorities that haven't really been brought to parents' attentions. If a student wants to have a traditional high school experience, BASIS isn't the school for them.
This school is great! It gives students the opportunity to take accelerated classes starting in the 6th grade. I remember in middle school we were taking high school classes like Biology, physics and chemistry. Later on in high school everyone take AP classes. Once you are in high school you are given the option to have off campus lunch and we are in downtown dc near all the good restaurants.
