Very rigorous curriculum, but it is definitely a unique school as it puts 4-12 grade together in one building (total of around 700-800 students). AP tests are paid for as long as you stay with the school and have an average score of 3. There is a limited amount of clubs and electives, and there is little to no athletics offered besides PE and two competitive sports. There is no official lunch service, but they do offer catering which is different from day to day but the same from week to week, which you must order a month in advance via the Boosters website. There is a very high teacher turn over rate, so new staff every year. There is a volunteer parent association known as the Boosters which holds events such as teacher appreciation days or coffee talks, but they are not all that influential. The teachers are very underpaid which they have even made clear to the students themselves, for what is expected of them to do.

I am a senior at BASIS Ahwatukee this year and have been at the school since it opened almost 5 years ago in 2013. This school is known for its rigorous academics, and after going through the entire curriculum from eighth grade to senior year, I can confirm that this school forces its students to challenge themselves. Although this work style is not for everyone. The teachers are amazing and the best resource the school has to offer, but the school does not have a library and is not technologically savvy. There are not a ton of extracurriculars offered, however the drama and arts departments are particularly good. Administration has been rocky and inconsistent, but there is high hope that the current head of school will last more than a year. The school culture is also an important aspect which greatly changes as you progress through the school. The students come together throughout the years because of the ability to endure a high stress environment.
There isn't really any way to sum this place up. I attended this school since it opened, and since then, it's gone through Head of Schools almost as fast as Hogwarts goes through Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers. The longest a Head has stayed so far has been 2 years, it's near impossible to build rapport with the admin as all of them leave sometime or the other. However, there is a strong community within the classes, and for that alone I rate this place 3 stars. They also pay for your AP tests, so that's a big plus. Once you go in, you don't come out. You're either all in, or you're not. And with all the good admin being promoted out, well things constantly shift. Good luck making your choice.
