This is my second year sending my 2 kids to Barrie. Although no schools are perfect and this year in particular is extremely challenging for parents/kids with Covid, the school has done an extraordinary job organizing safe and effective, in-person learning. And it has made an incredible difference for my kids and for our family. The school leadership is phenomenal and their communications has been above and beyond... just the "push" but interactive and engaging meeting we have had as a school-parent community. I am paying out of pocket for this school, and private education is not cheap.. but it's worth every penny... each of my girls has 2 teachers, small class size, access to a beautiful outdoor space, emphasis on their social and emotional health and well being (shout out to nurse Kirstie and counselor Maddison!) I hope I can keep my kids here for a long time! Finally, this is a high "value" school choice. Community is chill and not snobby, people are friendly & progressive!
Barrie is devoted to making this world a better place by instilling strong values, top level education, and a sense of purpose into each of their students.
The student body is small and incredibly diverse. The faculty at Barrie is as unique and diverse as the students themselves. Notice I refer to them as faculty because these are not just teachers, these are university level faculty. The teachers are passionate about the subjects they teach and that passion oozes through in their teaching. The Humanities program is a corner stone of this school. The students don't just read texts, they explore literature, they dissect history. The Model UN program is another standout feature of this school. The math and science departments are exemplary. Students get so much support that they truly sore. It is not unusual to have a group of AP Calculus students meeting on a Saturday morning with their teacher, eating bagels and working on math.

Our kids started in the early childhood program last year, and they have flourished in incredible ways. Our eldest used to attend a small, home-based preschool, and there is a huge contrast in his experience. Barrie has legit, highly educated faculty as opposed to trained daycare workers who love kids, and the difference is obvious. Our younger son started at 18 months, and after just two months in school, he was talking in full sentences, starting to use the potty, could clean up his own messes, and put on his own jacket. Our eldest went from just knowing ABCs to being able to read simple chapter books over the course of his first year at Barrie. He went from just knowing how to count to learning how to add, subtract, and even multiply over the same year. Their teachers were incredibly warm, sensitive, thoughtful, kind, communicative, and extremely experienced.
