Barnesville students are joyful learners who imagine, explore, grow, and achieve.
Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences offers an innovative preschool through 8th grade education that integrates the humanities, art, math, and science. Cross-curricular teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
Barnesville’s mission of joy, support, and excellence frames a learning environment that is far from standard. Small classes enable skilled teachers to engage each child in an academically challenging environment. Our 30-acre campus in the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve is our extended classroom, and we integrate nature into everyday learning.
Barnesville is an independent, non-sectarian day school accredited through the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) and certified as a Green School by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
Barnesville's strong INTERDISCIPLINARY foundation prepares students for success in an increasingly diverse and INTERCONNECTED world. Teachers COLLABORATE on CROSS-CURRICULAR projects designed to help students make CONNECTIONS across subjects.

Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences Reviews
Curriculums promised were not delivered, bullying was not addressed nor taught as such, the board was non-communicative (especially during COVID), toxicity between staff bled into classrooms, and yearly tuition increases did not equate to increased value.
In most recent years, ill-experienced and ill-trained teachers were hired. They often depended on online resources for their curriculum vs. promised proven teaching methods.
Their virtual program often resulted in us picking up broken pieces of our children that were left by the teachers at the ednd of their school day. This was the result of teacher’s impatience and/or lack of attention, resulting in frustration and sadness from our children.
Our only suggestion to potential customers is “buyers beware” and stay aware! Ask questions and demand answers.
After researching all the available private schools here in Southern Frederick County, I was dismayed by the few options nearby. After thoughtful consideration, Barnesville fulfilled all of my expectations as a teacher parent. It provided small class sizes, a great amount of time spent outside, many cross-curricular learning opportunities, and a strong community. The teachers are extra caring and it was evident during our time distance learning. If you are looking for a school that offers meaningful relationships where your child is given many opportunities to grow and learn, Barnesville is for you!
The School's commitment to inclusivity and diversity is a major reason why we love being a part of this community. Also, as an outdoor-centric family, supporters of the arts, and lovers of all-things scientific, we could not have picked a better school. Our daughter has access to nature, STEM, drama, music, art, athletics, and a community culture that cherishes its members.
