I'm currently a freshman at Barbara Goleman Senior High. Based on my experiences so far, this school is amazing. With the new administration, things seem to be heading in a very positive direction. Since I'm limited to how much I can type, here's Goleman in a really long run on sentence: a mega-magnet; provides dual enrollment; so so many AP classes; pep rallies are wild; the library is being renovated; lunch is 40 minutes (pretty awesome); football games are a must-go; HOCO is lit; clubs are awesome... What else? Oh, they have a credit union at the school too! You can open an account and start saving money/get a credit card/open a checking account. I've never seen that at any other school before. Oh, and we're an "A" school! So far, 4.7/5 stars.
It is a good environment, with kids dedicated to making a future for themselves. It is very Hispanic school with kids from all of Central and South America. Teachers are only as invested as you are and won't help you unless you show effort. The school activities, like pep rally, homecoming, prom, and spirit week are extremely fun to be a part of. Sports are a big thing and students attend many home games, especially against rival schools. The faculty cares about the students and do their best to make sure no one is alone at lunch and the make sure students are mentally okay and happy. The lunch is an average school lunch, nothing special, but there are different options every day. There are security is all buildings and on every floor, and there is always security at the entrance of the school, so it's easy to feel safe. There is a lot of school spirit throughout the school and everyone seems to be pretty happy to attend school every morning. There are plenty of clubs to be a part of.
My experience in Barbara Goleman Senior High is really good because the teachers are really invested in the students and are willing to help the students reach their potential. Also, the principal Dr. Sanchez interacts with the students very well and makes them feel safe in the school environment. In addition, since there is diversity in the students it can be very easy to make friends and most people are really kind. I am a junior in Barbara Goleman Senior High and I’ve created so many memories with the students and all the events they hold at school make it so much better. At this point I can consider this school my second home.
