Almost every teacher really goes the extra mile to make sure the students are understanding the material and willing to stay after school or come early for a little or meet during the school day to help you. The highschool is really nice and everything is pretty new. The sports are really biased in my experience, so if you want to be playing you have to be a favorite of the coach. There are a good number of activities other than sports. The lunch food is mediocre, but they have been trying to make some changes. Recently I have just been bringing my own lunch or waiting to eat until after school. The majority of the students are white so there isn't a lot of diversity in the school. You can take almost any DMACC class through the highschool or by going to one of the DMACC campuses in Ankeny or Ames. Overall all, Ballard is a great community and school district.

Ballard High School was a great school, with excellence in both in both their STEM and arts programs. I wish that the arts program was given more administrative resources, however, as the school seems to be ignoring it in favor of STEM and sports.
I personally had a very bad bullying experience and every single teacher who was aware (which was almost all of them) went out of their way to have lunch with me or make seating charts so that it could be avoided if possible. Not to mention, they would monitor the halls so that I could not be targeted.

Parents are involved and loved throughout the school. Every club or event is supported from theater and speech to football and cheerleading. A lovely atmosphere!
