Balboa is a great school! I transferred in after freshman year and my experience here is a lot better than at my old school. Here you meet people from different backgrounds and cultures and there is a strong sense of community between the students. The academics and teachers here are good, and for the most part, the teachers care about the students.Balboa offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports, allowing us to not only to connect with academics but also with our other classmates and community. The administration has been rough for the past year or so but has slowly been improving.

I loved how the students are designated into pathways once they become Juniors; sort of like the Houses in Harry Potter. These pathways can range from Wilderness Arts Literacy Collaborative and Law as such. They tie in with your classes and influences your learning in a different sense, which was interesting. I was part of WALC and loved it other than normal schooling we went on a lot camping trips, learn lots about our ecosystem/nature, plant gardens, hike; etc., it was awesome as well as the teachers!
I am a sophomore at Balboa and have spent one and a half years at "Bal". I'm originally from Tampa, Florida which is a primarily white community. Then I came and saw that Balboa my very diverse which ranged from African American's to Chinese to White people but that came with a lot of downsides. My community around me was very aggressive and poorly mannered with kids fighting on a monthly basis, but as time went on I started to adjust and finally understood that my community was something to be very proud of. Balboa is known to be a very rough school but as you get to understand and know the community you'll grow to love and cherish your time there such as i have within the first year.
