Balboa is a great school! I transferred in after freshman year and my experience here is a lot better than at my old school. Here you meet people from different backgrounds and cultures and there is a strong sense of community between the students. The academics and teachers here are good, and for the most part, the teachers care about the students.Balboa offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports, allowing us to not only to connect with academics but also with our other classmates and community. The administration has been rough for the past year or so but has slowly been improving.

I loved how the students are designated into pathways once they become Juniors; sort of like the Houses in Harry Potter. These pathways can range from Wilderness Arts Literacy Collaborative and Law as such. They tie in with your classes and influences your learning in a different sense, which was interesting. I was part of WALC and loved it other than normal schooling we went on a lot camping trips, learn lots about our ecosystem/nature, plant gardens, hike; etc., it was awesome as well as the teachers!
Having great teachers teaching the class makes a great difference in making me want to try learn while having fun. The administration is really mixed bag from not doing a through job in consistent quality. The college preparation resources aren't really helpful since it's better to get more accurate and current information by going to the college website, email, and appointment to the office helps more. I wish people told me go directly to the college instead of transferring since it would have saved me more time to graduate.
