Our children go to this school and it is an incredible place! Baker makes learning come alive to the children. They have been exposed to so many amazing hands-on experiences including: middle school camping trips, middle school microlending project, kindergarten butterfly migration work, theater productions, an all-school 5k, artistic explorations (clay, 3d printing, photography, paintings, mosaics, and more), big buddy/little buddy relationships between older students and younger ones, social justice work, middle school dual language (Spanish/Latin) work, differentiated challenging math curriculum, and so much more. Baker students go on to succeed at many of the top high schools in the area both public and private because they have developed a love of learning that goes beyond grades. Baker also dedicates a major portion of its budget to financial aid package to help foster a diverse community from a wide range of socio-economic, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.

I highly recommend Baker Demonstration School in Evanston for families who want their children to be taught not WHAT to think but HOW to think critically and creatively about the world, issues and people around them.

Baker is unique not just for its academic excellence as an independent school but for its project-based learning philosophy, which builds on what we know about how children learn the best. Teachers constantly refine their lessons to fit children’s interests and needs, giving them dynamic learning opportunities to fully engage with subjects.

I witness classrooms and community areas full of excited and kind students who are supportive of each other, eager to achieve, and able to reach out to teachers when they need some help or extra attention. I know that my children will be able to advocate for themselves and navigate high school, college and beyond as confident, compassionate, and curious individuals.
We recently transferred our two boys ages 8 and 10 to Baker. The community was very welcoming and our kids easily adjusted to being in a new school. So far Baker has been a great experience for our family, the kids wake up each morning excited to go to school
and the projects they are involved in are innovative and exciting. Great arts and music program and swimming twice a week!
