As far as high schools go, Austin High was the best one I could've asked for! There was lots of diversity to experience other cultures and perspectives, and the teachers were all very willing to work 1-on-1 with me to understand and excel both in school and in the real world. Not to mention the incredible drive of the student body to always be the best or to make a difference. I have never seen so many politically active people all in one school who still have time for electives and keeping great grades! Their drive pushed me harder to do the absolute best I can.

I came to Austin High junior year and immediately made friends by doing sports and clubs. Overall, I would say I greatly enjoyed my experience here. I participated heavily in the business program, taking 5 business classes over the course of junior and senior year. I am also President of the the Business Professionals of America Club here at Austin High. This was our first year, and we placed in multiple events at the regional competition, and will be continuing on to the state competition in March. Most of the teachers here are average, however there are a few teachers (Coach Lebo, Ms. Telly, Mrs. Guerrero, and several others) that are absolutely phenomenal, and they make it worth it. Each of them have significantly improved my education experience. The one major downside of Austin High is that there is little to no culture. AHS isn’t really that great at sports, which may be a factor in the culture problem, as games are a great place to support your school and meet new people.
My experience at AHS was good, I found my home in the newspaper room and found the environment to be comforting and accepting. Because of its central location, AHS is diverse and that made my experience much more fulfilling. Of course, high school does not come without the teenagers that occupy it, so it will always have acne-filled, angsty moments. However, I found my counselor and teachers comfortable enough to talk to through this four-year experience. My high school career was better than others, I am lucky to have found my place in a swarm of 3,000, and I am grateful for all it taught me.
