I loved the fact that although AWCPA wasn't the best school in terms of grades, the high school section was very personalized to each student with teachers making a closer connection to students to help them succeed. In a low-income area where many students have parents who didn't even go to high school and are immigrants, such support is vital to student success. Concurrent enrollment is also encouraged and students are able to take classes towards their major or get certified in a career of their choice, some students even do both which allows for even more success. Since the high school section is small, students don't deal with the problems of cliques, bullying, and peer pressure thus making the overall experience more enjoyable. Because of everything previously mentioned, the class of 2018 actually became the first high school class within our school district with a 100% graduation rate.

Aurora West College Preparatory Academy is both a middle school and high school filled with amazing teachers and administration. I have been attending Aurora West since sixth grade, now I am a few months away from graduating high school. Throughout the seven years, I have spent in this facility I have experienced both amazing moments as well as bad ones, college readiness being one of them. College readiness is a subject that should be implemented on students earlier than their senior year, helping them get a sense as to what they would want to do after high school.
I do appreciate that the middle schoolers who attend the school have to submit an application to become a high schooler at AWCPA. Since we are a joint school, I would like to see more space to be implemented in the building. Most high school classes are within just one hallway (except elective classes) & the rest are outside in the mobiles.
