Atkins Academic and Technology High School is a school that participates in the STEM program, AP style courses and PLTW courses which can be used towards college credit. The clubs and activities provided at the school range from Chess Club and Art Club to Science Olympiad and Technology Student Association. Being a Camel we participate in many sports, Wrestling, Football, and many others. The diversity and range of culture within the school provides the students with different views on the subjects and courses. The school's administration has 3 counselors overseeing over 3000 students, causing answers and meetings to be a little slow, nonetheless, they make sure you are prepared and receive everything in time.

Atkins High School is the best high school in the state of North Carolina. It is a STEM school; everything from engineering to biomedical tech is offered. Students at this school get internships easily because of the connections the staff have with professionals around the community. It is also located in Winston Salem, one of the cities doing the most innovative research in the health sciences and biotechnology. Atkins is not a school to attend if you plan to be mediocre and fulfill basic requirements of high school. The teachers at Atkins conduct how they grade, their assignments, and the atmosphere of their classes based on their college experience. Most students who graduated from Atkins and did well come back and say college is much easier than what they thought it would be. The principle works to eliminate any external distractions such as bullying and that is why we have SMOD. Our motto is "where its cool to be smart," and it definitely lives on!
Teachers are very involved with their students, they truly care about what happens to you after you graduate high school. Teachers fully understand that not all students learn the same way or at the same pace and take the time to accommodate every student. The school is very competitive when it comes to academics which is another thing I like. The administrative staff is very understanding and handle things in the most appropriate and fairway. They make sure to get the whole story and discipline accordingly. I myself especially enjoyed the nursing fundamentals program Atkins has to offer. The class is very competitive and only 40 students per school year take the class. The class presented me with the opportunity to get BLS (basic life support) certified, and CNA certified. The overall involvement of teachers, the staff, and opportunities presented at Atkins is simply unmatched by other high schools. The only downside of the school would be that students have to wear uniforms.
