Atholton High School prepared me very well for college. The courses offered, such as accounting and AP Micro/Macroeconomics are classes one should definitely take if they are considering pursuing a business degree. Not only is the faculty good at teaching these classes so that they are significantly easier in college, they also set you up to pass the AP exams. The science and math department at Atholton is also very good and the only reason I did so well in General Chemistry this past semester was because of my sophomore year chemistry teacher. The school is one of the most diverse in Howard County, both ethnically and socioeconomically, and has a fantastic athletics program.

I like the clubs offered at Atholton as well as a few of the teachers. I would like to see more AP classes offered such as AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP European History, AP US History, etc. I would also like to see Atholton students treating their peers and teachers better and vice versa. Atholton needs to improve their science and math curriculum and teachers. Many students I know are struggling in their classes because of their not so good teachers. Teachers are not doing enough to ensure that their students are being successful and it shows. I would also like to see a diverse student population in more challenging classes such as G/T, AP, and Honors. I believe that all students need more encouragement, support, motivation, and to be pushed out of their comfort zones (especially before their transition into college and the real world).
What I like about Atholton High School is that our principal Mr. Motley listens to the student body. We have a student council named SGA which he collaborates with on school events such as homecoming and pep rallies. SGA has an Instagram page which students can message directly.
One the biggest accomplishments I've seen from SGA was the change of the dress code. The dress code now allows tank tops, head scarfs, short shorts, and several other articles of clothing that were targeting females.
