I liked the sense of community that was provided through being in a shop. I also really liked learning the trade of metal fabrication while also still being able to take AP level classes. The only things I found to be troubling about the school was how some students found an inappropriate sense of community in their shops. Some students in particular shops shared racist, homophobic, and sexist opinions, and since they felt they had a community who shared these opinions within the shops, they felt they could be more vocal about such opinions. I understand that in today's day and age it is hard to control the opinions/voices of others, and the school did all they could to prevent students from flying the confederate flags off the backs of their trucks, but as a bisexual woman in the metal fabrication shop, I had to deal with a lot of unnecessary harassment from not only students, but teachers, which made my high school experience less than enjoyable.

Assabet Valley is a vocational school, So as a student I spend half of the school year focusing on a trade and the other half focusing on academics. Going to a tech school is overall an amazing experience because so many doors can open up during and after high school whether it be for sports, careers, colleges, even having just extra knowledge to be able to change a tire or color someone’s hair. Not only does the school offer a trade but we have some of the best sports teams, clubs, and classes to offer as well. Everyone that makes the choice to come to Assabet is guaranteed to find something right for them. The school is filled with the most kind hearted and understanding people. Each and every person working in the school is supportive and wants their students to succeed. Assabet is a 100% positive environment all the time. Everyone wants one another to succeed and everyone helps make the school a great place to be!
I love it at Assabet, i think it was the best choice that i could have made. The shops are so fun and even if you don't know what you want to do for the rest of your life you're going to leave with the knowledge of a trade and how to work. Assabet gives great opportunity to all diverse people, and is a great choice of high school!
