I attended this school all the way through. At first, I wasn't really used to it, so I hated it. There was too much overcrowding, loudness, and fighting. While this is still very much a problem, it can be a problem across all high schools, plus I got used to it. Other than that, very solid school! Very clean, most teachers are good, and the students all relatively mind their own business and are chill. Definitely the best school out of all public Dorchester district schools. My only real issue still is the lack of service/wifi. I get that it's near a forest and they don't want kids on their phones during class, but it's their responsibility plus it could be dangerous if something bad happens to the school.
My experience at Ashley Ridge High School was one to remember. I was the type of student who wanted to get involved in so many clubs and activities and Ashley Ridge had plenty for students to sign up for. They had academic clubs such as the National Honor Society, French, and Spanish Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and many others, along with clubs relating to career paths such as the Aeronautics club, HOSA (medical club), and Student Government. It was very easy to get involved at the school because of how well Ashley Ridge reached out to their students and advertised these clubs. They also hosted fun events such as Swampfest (students partner up with kindergarten kids with special needs and let them play games, and eat food), Pep Rallies, and other activities. The school has a lot of school spirit and is one of the best high schools in Charleston. I am proud to be an Ashley Ridge alumni.
The school is okay. I've never been to any other high schools so I can't really compare it to anything. The environment is nice and we get nice opportunities like the Early College Program and vocational school. I kind of wish ASL was a language we could learn at our school, but I realize there aren't many teachers. We can't even keep a German teacher!
