Asheville Christian Academy Reviews
Looking back on my attendance all through high school, I can confidently say that the “college preparatory” focus of this school has greatly diminished. The blame lies squarely on teacher motivation. Many experienced teachers left over the course of my four years there, and many of the teachers remaining were either new hires (some lacking field experience or even diplomas from accredited colleges) or tenured instructors who failed to adapt their education for a new generation. Many of these older teachers (who make up a good portion of the staff) used resources and online materials that were nearly 25 years old, matching the age of their curriculums. With that said, there are some commendable teachers that work hard to help students become prepared and succeed, but they are in the stark minority. For parents comparing ACA with various other private day schools, I implore you to look at CDS or Asheville School first. Your child will benefit from a far more intentional education.
The moment I stepped onto my school's campus as a rising sixth grader, I knew that attending Asheville Christian Academy would be one of the best decisions of my life. This proved true throughout the next seven years as I grew in my knowledge of the world. Although the school is smaller than other public schools in the area, it maintains pride and excitement regarding clubs, athletics, and other events. One of the best things about ACA is the relationship between teacher and student. All the faculty members genuinely care about their students and will not hesitate to reach out if they sense something might be wrong. They take time out of the schedule to meet with you about anything and are willing to have difficult conversations. I am eternally grateful for my teachers and the wisdom that they pour into my daily.
Asheville Christian Academy is a school that pushes its students to be the best they can be. The most defining characteristic for me is the love the teachers have for us. This isn't just their job, their passions and love for us as individuals shines through and impacts every student. The classes are challenging and prepare us well for college, providing levels of opportunity to meet every student where they stand. I belong to the theater program and have many friends in the sports area and both are fantastic. ACA is a wonderful school and I would it recommend anyone who wants to belong to a Christ centered community of grace.
