K12 Academy is an online schooling system for the intent of drawing profit from those who utilize their resources. This means they are interested in receiving your money in the hopes that they gain profit which is typical no matter what industry, business, or service. In the instance of K12, the money must be going to the moon, elsewhere to their own curriculum and overall structure. The lessons and assignments are poorly written and designed. Each lesson provides little information regarding the topic. The information is vague and unexplanatory. The teachers pile inordinate amounts of work loads on their students which increases their time at the computer. This ultimately detracts from the overall health of the students enrolled in the program. As a student at K12, I spend anywhere from 8-10 hours staring at the computer screen, worsening my migraines. Because of this, I must take frequent breaks. As a result I fall further behind in my work.

The teachers are very involved, they are there to help and offer support for any problems with I may have. The courses are organized and well explained, there are slides to go with everything. The learning experience is personalized to each individual. If you are ahead the school will accommodate you, and if you are a little slower then they also make changes to ensure that you get the full experience. Prom, dances, student council, meetings, clubs are all a heavy part of the experience which I love because even though I am homeschooled, I still want to experience that. This school allows you to earn you associates degree in high school, while they pay for all of the classes. However, there are a lot of changes through the school year. The teachers and counselors change quite often. A lot of teachers were fired during the schools transition, which really impacted learning. Getting information is inconsistent, and it is best to have everything in writing.
I have been attending Arizona Virtual Academy for 4 years, and it has been a fantastic experience. My teachers were always supportive and helpful in anything I needed, helping me persevere through any emotional or academic challenges I had. My classmates were kind and of many different cultures, interests, and backgrounds which really helped me develop my social skills despite it being an online school. I love the way the school operates itself to best help every student succeed!
