Areté has given us the greatest gift we could ever imagine; our son LOVES school! He began as an 8th grader and will be attending again in the fall for his 9th grade year. The switch from in-person classes to virtual learning due to the pandemic was seamless. The teachers are all so caring and invested in the students they teach. They came up with clever ways to keep our son engaged and excited about their subjects and were immediately accessible whenever he had a question outside of class time. Subjects that he once had trouble with, like math, he's now excelling in. Because of the small class sizes, each of the students get more than enough one-on-one time with every teacher. They really get to know every child and the best way to help each one, individually. We literally cannot say enough good things about this school. We are so grateful to have found it.

My son began in 9th. As a student at Arete, he's engaged, happy, learning, exploring. His curiosity kicked up a notch. He happily dives in to studies at home (read: homework). He discusses what he's learning (a miracle!). The teachers amaze with enthusiasm, knowledge, ability to engage and meet each students personally. They teach their passions. They're trusted and the results are impressive! I'm so grateful my child can have this experience.

Arete uses Socratic seminar format. Students question, observe, discuss, use information in real-world ways, each accepted and encouraged for unique ideas. They discover and develop their voices and talents. They complete college requirements but go much further to discover whom they are as individuals! Students can jump ahead. My kid rediscovered his love of science. He can go deeper at Arete. Same with history.

The community is wonderful (read: great parent community!) Arete continues to amaze in giving my son a superior education!
My daughter came in as a Junior from a prestigious girls school. She complained that she didn't fit their mold and wasn't treated well by many of her peers. She felt the homework was excessive and found herself cramming for tests. Now at Arete, she still works really hard but sees the homework as more fair (occasionally the teachers have realized they have assigned too much and dialed it back) and more geared toward productively gaining a deeper understanding of the material. She loves her classes and her teachers and the seminar style of teaching. Honestly, when people ask her about her switch to Arete, she lights up when describing what she likes about it! Arete truly is ahead of the curve when it comes to teaching style and deeper dive learning. No school is perfect and social opportunities and things like performance theater are Limited. But if you have an academic student like mine, they will be happy and get a great education!
