My experience at Archbishop Mitty High School was amazing! The academic variety and rigor were just enough to challenge me in the classroom while also providing me with enough leeway in the lessons for creativity to come through. The campus is beautiful, large enough to accommodate its student population and small enough that you won't get lost. There's local shops a fifteen minute walk away, good places for students to hang out in a safe environment. The extracurricular offerings are diverse and you can always find a community to be involved with in on campus. There are a few facets of the school that do need to change, such as updates on policies rooted in sexism and racism as well as the underlying culture within the administration of hiding serious issues such as rape allegations and underage drug and alcohol usage.
Loved my experience at Mitty! I had a great balance between school life and social life. Everyone there is involved in some type of extracurricular, and it's really encouraged by teachers and staff. It's easy to make friends this way and find what you're interested in. I got good grades at Mitty and went to a really great college, which I was very academically prepared for. I still have lasting friendships with my high school friends and look back very fondly on my experiences at Mitty.
As far as Bay Area, Catholic schools go, Archbishop Mitty is an excellent school academically, socially, and athletically. From making friends with cafeteria staff to finding my passion in theater tech crew, Archbishop Mitty has made my high school experience very memorable. My positive experience was only dulled by difficulties with school administration. In the 2020 school year, school administration wanted to put into effect a ban on head wraps. As an African-American at a predominantly white school, it was frustrating to see the administration take away a piece of my culture. So many girls were taught to wrap these colorful and silky headscarves as children and their cultural significance goes back centuries. It warmed my heart to see the small African American community at Archbishop Mitty come together and show our administration how important this piece of cloth was to us. Despite difficulties with admins, the factors that made my experience positive was the community I found.
