Archbishop Hoban High School Reviews
Rating 4.34 out of 5 167 reviews
As a transfer student it was nice to feel like Hoban was a place that I could grow academically as well as socially. Though, being a new student is tough as you cannot relate to everyone as they have known each other for a longer period of time and have formed lasting friendships. After acclimating to the environment at Hoban I can say that I have formed new relationships academically and socially and my learning has definitely been pushed to think in ways I haven’t before. It is always a little frustrating to feel not as important or having as many opportunities as other students as Hoban is a widely athletic based school and I am not one to participate in the sports because of the politics associated with them. I wish there was a way to feel like an equal instead of an underclass man even though I am a senior at Hoban.
I had the opportunity to move back to Akron, OH from North Carolina due to the principal and staff, taking a chance to allow me to come my senior year. My mom and I transferred to North Carlina in the 7th grade and I always felt as though I was missing something because the high school that I always dreamed of going to was just a memory. My experience may not have been as easy as I thought the first couple of months, however long term this is the best choice that I could've made for my future academically. In such a short time, I've gained more knowledge that I have had my whole high school career. The teachers and counselors at Hoban make such a high effort for every student, which shows that this isn't just another job but a career that they love. Memories from Hoban will last a lifetime from staying up studying, working hard at football practice, attending Mass, taking a field trip to an elementary school to read books and simply being with friends my last year of high school.
The school is great for tradition and education, but for extracurriculars, the football team takes priority, even when other teams are state qualifiers and state champions themselves.
