At Antelope High School, there is a lot of diversity, and the staff and students are very friendly! There are only four periods with extra long class hours, but they go by quickly with the work that we do. Four, long classes gives everyone the opportunity to finish their homework at school, and it’s less stressful during finals week to have only four classes with tests. Each semester has four different classes, allowing each student to focus on only four subjects per semester. It’s easier for students to not have to juggle six to eight classes a day along with after school activities. We also have Titan 28 which is a period of the day when we can go to different teachers’ rooms to receive feedback from them when it comes to our grades and assignment submissions. I got to experience the staff’s helpfulness and hospitality when I arrived in the middle of the school year. They helped me settle into this amazing school, and I am glad I go to Antelope High School.
Antelope High School takes pride in their capability, and constantly tries to improve upon itself. Year after year the school has grown in diversity, challenges, and opportunity. I am always encouraged to try my best and get involved. Our school offers multiple different pathways, activities, clubs, and sports; making many able to find an activity they enjoy. However many of these experiences are limited now due to covid. Online learning has kept many students from participating and seeking new activities. A majority of the teachers try their best to keep the class interesting and in high spirits. Also, quite a few students 9th-12th have been using their social media platforms in order to get others invovled, and keep others informed.
Antelope High School offers an environment in which one will feel welcome regardless of age, race, or gender. It is a diverse school that has great staff and AHS' spirit makes it stand out from other schools; staff is mostly concerned with safety, followed by fun. The district it is run by is a different story. Some decisions the district makes can't be altered by the school; they must follow the rules. This leaves the schools decision at the mercy of the district. While it isn't a big deal typically, one decision that was made that was particularly poor on the districts behalf was to reopen schools 5 days a week, with 70 minute classes, little to no social distancing, and withholding the information about options. In the midst of a pandemic, one would think the district would value safety, but that doesn't seem to be the case in this situation. AHS is a great school, hence the 4 star review. The school can't help the district's decision, but it does affect the environment.
