I am a current senior at Ankeny Centennial High School and not only do I believe my school has done a phenomenal job in preparing me for my future, but provided a safe & healthy learning environment where I was able to be successful. First of all, we have the most amazing team of staff. The hard work of our janitors, lunch staff, coaches, office staff, counselors, teachers, and administration staff can be seen through the success of their students. I feel confident in knowing I had an amazing team of people help me become the person I am today and cannot wait to see what my future holds. Thank you Ankeny Centennial High School!
There is not a lot of academic diversity. It feels as though our school focuses on STEM more than the humanities or arts, which something I would like to see change, seeing as not everyone enjoys STEM. However, our school offers a lot of DMACC classes, which are wonderful opportunities to prepare for college and take courses not otherwise available at school. As for school culture, it often feels like we don’t really have one. It feels like we have individual cultures through extracurriculares, but not an overarching sense of camaraderie. That being said, those cultures are generally positive, which is beneficial to making our school a positive place.
I have grown so much from attending Centennial. The teachers alone are so welcoming and I have made so many friends from all the sports and activities I am involved in. Because of the curriculum taught, I am confident that I am very prepared for what is to come in my future. A couple of aspects that could improve for future students would be resources for applying to universities, vocational schools, and scholarship help. Because there are so many students, receiving resources for colleges and after school opportunities are lessened because of the sheer struggle for communication. Overall, I am so grateful that i have experienced all Ankeny Centennial High School has offered!
