I went to Animo Leadership coming from a different community. I transitioned from a Caucasian community to a Hispanic community. The change wasn't easy, but the people there had made it easy. I like how Animo keeps students on track and how the counselors and teachers support the students and help while doing college applications. I feel that the support provided and amount of times that the applications are reviewed helps the student and increases their likeliness into getting accepted. I think that they should change the time that we go in. I feel this because I am usually asleep in my first period due to the time going in.

Animo Leadership is a very small charter high school in the heart of Inglewood which carries a negative stigma due to gang related activity around the neighborhood. I will change the negative stigmas surrounding my community, by breaking the mold; showing you can leave by graduating college. I am someone who has grown up in an area with limited resources fostering limited mindsets. My neighborhood has 4 elementary schools, 2 high schools, and a strip club feet away from a library. What message does that send to children? It's normal in my community to have pregnant classmates in high school. People aren't aware of the world outside, they aren't encouraged to ever leave. This is proven by the lack of proper school funding and fostered apathy.
I'm currently a junior at Animo Leadership and so far my experience has been positive. All the teachers are there to support and help you with anything from educational to personal reasons. Their doors are always open. Education is important in this school and that's something that is different because the city that the school is at is a minority community and it is difficult to try and find teachers that care and are focus on their students education after high school graduation. Something that I think can make the school is having more field trips to different college campuses so us as the students can see our options before having to apply.
