My current experience at Andover High School has been very good! The culture and community is amazing, and the teachers within the building go out of their way to ensure that everyone is doing well. My only wish is that the school would offer more classes; however, I understand that may be difficult due to the school size.
My time at Andover was definitely filled with some ups and downs. The social environment tends to be pretty cliquey and hard to navigate. The environment is pretty competitive, and it is hard to create positive change. That being said, once I found good friends and continued pursuing my academic path, I enjoyed my time. I had several amazing teachers that cared about my wellbeing. I participated in a great variety of extracurriculars; I absolutely loved the clubs I was involved in. However, the choir department really made me question my love for music and singing.
Andover High School provides outstanding opportunities. I did find out about their dual enrollment program. They joined Butler Community College to provide high school students with the chance to earn college credit while still in high school. When you graduate, you will also receive an associate's degree in whatever field you participated in. They also have this program called CAPS where for one semester you go to a different building for half of the school day and work with people in the field you are interested in. You get to experience internships and many other cool experiences.
However, I have been to many schools and I have never dealt with the level of bullying quite as bad as I have here. I am a new student this year and new students are not very welcome, especially when you join the upperclassman. The students have formed groups and are not very inviting. It has been a real struggle to get close with friends this year.
