Andover Central is fantastic school. People are very welcoming. There are many amazing teachers and great classes and opportunities. Sports have great coaches, the arts provide shelter and belonging, and the school is overall filled with people that show how much they care for their fellow Jags. Many teachers have joined together to serve as an outlet or safe space for students. At Central we understand that life is hard especially as a teenager. Through hardship our school has stuck together and has only become stronger. Aside from all the good, of course there are some down falls. It is normal! Such as a few number of poor teacher, peer pressure, and etc. Overall, everyone and everything (including school) are a part of something that creates unity and belonging.
I absolutely love and respect our administration. Our teacher are excellent and provide a great learning experience. As a junior currently, I’ve had an awesome experience getting to grow in personal relationships with my teachers. Especially in the math department, I’ve found that personal relationships make high school so much of a better and more comfortable experience. Our sport programs are incredible and we have great coaches. I’ve been involved in basketball, cross country, student council, national honors society, UTC club, and our ProStart culinary competition team. All of these programs have genuinely improved me as a person and helped me make many friends. One thing I would love to see change is more diversity.
I was shocked upon moving here my junior year. I came from a poor school in a small-medium city. The sheer amount of resources that the kids here have is amazing. Their chromebooks are new, they have big collab spaces with TVs and updated labs. The main problem with the school has already been stated by other reviews. The lack of diversity means students that are underprivileged economically or socially have a hard time. This isn't the fault of any one person in particular, it's more just a problem that comes naturally from the predominatly white and wealthy population that surrounds the school. Still, the school is great academically and there are teachers and other staff here who will make your time great if you develop a personal relationship with them.
