Amelia Island Montessori School Reviews
Rating 3.33 out of 5 3 reviews
Inside and out, a true Montessori school. As a current parents, my first impressions: tucked away into nature, an idyllic setting with green space, gardens outside each classroom, a chicken coop (yes, they sell the eggs), and a delightful assortment of outdoor projects.
Inside the classroom: the Maria Montessori philosophy at work. Mixed-age classrooms, wooden materials that encourage critical thinking, children quiet and focused on their learning-by-doing work; teachers directing and encouraging rather than lecturing.
For a parent of two young ones, this is the only school on Amelia Island that honors and respects the fullness of childhood. There's an element of magic here. To understand that and to take advantage of what this school offers, parents need to read books about Montessori and its roots.

My son has been at Amelia Island Montessori School since he was just under two years old, and he is now completing third grade. He has developed a real love for learning, as he puts it, "you get really into the things you're studying and the teachers make it really fun." The Montessori philosophy is rooted in educating the whole child, building compassion and character, and you can see that in action at Amelia Island Montessori.
We were sucked into the picturesque setting with the mature oaks and beautiful beaches. The school has gone through 3 Directors in just 6 years. High turnover with teachers cause continued learning curves affecting the students. Unfortunately, we were stuck during their continued struggle which continues since we left 2 years ago. Highest priced education around town and the worst educational experience we have had. NOTE: Saint Michaels Academy was an outstanding experience. Currently out in Wildlight Elementary, a public school in it's 2nd year and was running like a machine in it's 1st week. Wildlight is also a stellar school with strong leadership and teachers with longevity in Nassau county, FL. This past year, my daughter is testing in the top 5% in the USA within her grade.
